In 2007, the estate of Edna Besserdich executed her wishes and donated approximately 135 acres of property for use as a park located in the Town of West Kewaunee. The property contains rolling topography and is characterized by scenic views, wooded areas, open spaces and was previously used for natural preservation and farming. Upon receipt, Kewaunee County was committed to creating a nature base outdoor recreation area including a 2.0 mile hiking and cross-county ski trail and a 2.6 mile mountain bike and snowshoe trail. The nature based recreation trail design allows for four (4) season outdoor use of the trail systems for multiple user groups. These trail locations have been located and marked by GPS and also include rest areas for benches in unique and scenic areas of the property. Other site facilities included that support the trail system include a service drive and parking area; a four season park shelter including restrooms; a timber frame park pavilion utilizing constructions techniques from years ago, and picnic area. All support facilities are located on less than 1 acre of property to reduce environmental impacts and to reduce the surface water drainage footprint. In addition, the County leases 18 acres of the property to the Kewaunee County Youth Soccer Association which constructed 6 fields to support a county wide youth soccer program.
